WESTOW-HOWSHAM WOODS-HOWSHAM-CRAMBE-KIRKHAM PRIORY- KIRKHAM-WESTOW
Kirkham Abbey—Nth Yorks
Description:
We start our walk today in the small North Yorkshire village of Westow and shortly after leaving the village we walk through Howsham Woods, to reach the small Hamlet of Howsham. After a short stretch by the river Derwent we pass by Crambe Grange Farm and across fields to the village of Crambe. We continue on tracks and paths before descending Blue Hill and once again crossing the River Derwent, to reach the remains of Kirkham Priory, an Augustinian Priory founded in 1120. A short walk then takes us to The Stone Trough Inn for our Lunch stop. After lunch we follow a short section of the Centenary Way and along Church Lane to reach Westow from an opposite direction to which we left, and in the village reach the end of our walk.
