A Walk 12-Jan-2020 Leader: Charles Stuart
Distance (miles): 10.50   Ascent (feet): 995  Difficulty: Moderate +++

YORKSHIRE SCULPTURE PARK CIRCULAR via OVERTON
Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Description:

Our walk starts just outside the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and we make our way into the Park through the footpath entrance( please note that there will be no toilet facilities at the beginning of the walk, as the cafe toilets do not open until 10.00am). Sculptures by Damien Hurst, Sir Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth and others are exhibited in the Park. We walk along the edge of Bretton Hall and Bretton Park, picking up the Dearne Way and continue along the Kirklees Way towards Gillcar Farm, with some nice views over the valley and open countryside. We then pick up the Wakefield Way with a mixture of farms, open fields, hedgerows, stepping stones over a stream and woodland. Our lunch stop will be just before The Reindeer Inn at Overton, and then refreshments inside the pub of course, serving guest beers, (food is served at the pub but it will be busy and tables are usually booked in advance, so a packed lunch is advised). After lunch we leave Overton and make a fairly direct route back to the YSP Centre, where we will meet the “B” group and set off back home. The walk, as a result of much rain over the last few months, is very muddy in places, so waterproof boots, gaiters and walking sticks are strongly advisable.
